Hotel with old technology room key cards. If you keep your room key card for only one second in the vicinity of your cell phone, your key card doesn't function anymore. Stayed here for 2 nights, had to go 6 times to reception to reprogram my 2 key cards, really annoying. Staff is very helpfull. Windows cannot open. Date of stay: February Rooms. Clean, spacious, with very good quality food in its restaurants and very adequate Wifi, fitness and other amenities. But they really excel in one specific thing: the quality of the staff. It is contagious and, since we are used to being in hotels many many times, we appreciate this very much because it is not always We were with a group of more than hundred sports people dyrig four days, which presents for the personnel - at least - a 'challenge', in hotel-marketingspeak.
But for the young staff of the newly renamed Mercure Hotel, this was certainly true. It was a relief, after many little bit different experiences in hotels worldwide, where the working sometimes more feels like a punishment for the staff. In the Mercure, on the contrary. Behind the desk, in the restaurants and even during a high-pressured buffet for hundreds of people, they were great - and so was the food. Definitely a great experience and one to be repeated.
So, chapeau to the people who managed to find these young workers and toi themselves. Great room and awesome breakfast spread! We stayed only a night but wished we had stayed longer. The breakfast spread was awesome featuring Belgian waffles, pancakes and a wide selection of granola, spreads and sauces. Although located quite a distance from Antwerp's city centre, the hotel was surrounded by a few bus-stops and tram-stops within walking distance.
