Again, Jacqui accompanied me. Before departing on our run Greg phoned and reported in from Dubai. He had a good flight from Brisbane to Dubai — accompanied by 2 young female doctors. I am pleased he had them to keep him company during the flight. The view over the Numinbah Valley was spectacular. Nobody was in any hurry to move and, again, this was another ideal location for our group.
The restaurant is BYO so bottles of wine started appearing from the cars and being shared around. We reloaded into our Morgans at around pm. Bruce and Ros parted the group and we drove through Mount Nathan, Maudsland, Guanaba and Wongawallen and back to our base. John Ross said his farewells here and returned home also. We stayed overnight at Eagle Heights Mountain Resort.

Rick and Rita Thurgood new MOQ members since Sunday 1st July were in the neighbouring room and, as I shared my wine with them at lunch, Rick poured me a glass and the 3 of us chatted over the balcony. I felt it was very good value for money. There were the choice of 2 soups and both were excellent, the Christmas main course was good and the dessert was okay. I believe the Pavlova was good and, as a lover of Christmas pudding, it was okay a bit disappointing but okay.
David True and Marg Day preformed the Christmas gift-giving ceremony.
Premium hotels
Everyone put quite a bit of thought into the gifts this year and there were some interesting ones. Unfortunately, I was the only slack one that turned up with a Bottle of wine — but it was French wine. I think the hit for the night was the fluffy kitten hat, complete with ears, received by Jenny.
Good thinking Lee, it was a good one! Oops — sorry. By om the meal was over and presents shared; most of the group arose, said good-night and departed. We were soon told that the restaurant was closed and last drinks had been called — though as it was not yet pm they allowed Rick to purchase a bottle of wine. The staff suggested we take the drinks and glasses to our rooms so we set off to the Bridal Suite Chris and Julie room for the night.

Poor kids! It is a wonder they are not traumatised. It was then, what we considered, a respectable time to head off to bed and prepare for Sunday.

We were joined by Michael Moore and his friend John a Porsche owner for Coffee whilst we were having breakfast. David nominated Michael as the leader for the day. DT, you will learn that Michael is not the best navigator around! By the time we arrived in Beaudesert we had to stop while our leader Michael stopped for a pit-stop. It must have been the coffee Once he returned, we continued through Rathdowney and on to Rathlogan Olives.
They had samples of olives, dukkah and olives oil and of course bread for us to taste and purchase. I think Lee, Michael and I were the only people to make purchases. I felt that I had better buy something as they were good enough to open up for us. Joe decided to take the great drive through Boonah, Esk and back home to the Sunshine Coast. Michael then lead the rest of us around Barney View then back to the Mt Lindsay Highway where he was to turn left to Rathdowney, then right through Innesplain, Christmas Creek, Kerry and back to Beaudesert.
Michael turned right onto the Mt Lindsay Highway and gave a big wave to the crowd. Obviously nobody was reading instructions as all followed. Lee did wonder why I had paused at the intersection. And they are glorious — nowhere more so than at De Panne, where they stretch for miles in wonderful solemn bleakness.
Bright white and wind-whipped, the sand has a feral quality, attacking our skin like clouds of furious insects. The Kusttram coastal tram is integral to many of the historic attractions along its route. Wounded soldiers were evacuated on the tram during the First World War, and from the Thirties onwards it made the coast accessible and affordable to all — hence Blackpoolesque Blankenberge and, more recently Plopsaland, the immensely popular if improbably named family theme-park in De Panne.

Sun-worshipping on the Belgian Riviera. These days the tram is a sleek, efficient affair, and we step off in the centre of Koksijde to meet Linda Ticker, a volunteer guide with the excellent Belgian Coastal Greeter service. The area was named after colonial troops stationed there during the First World War, protecting all-important Newport just up the coast. On the short tram ride to Newport Nieuwpoort , the wide flat beach is framed by giant grass-stubbled dunes and hugged by an inviting- looking cycle path. Newport is the biggest marina in northern Europe, and the only place on the coast where inland waterways connect to the open sea.
During the First World War its strategic importance and role in repelling German forces locals opened the Ganzenpoot locks, flooding the interior and forcing the German army to retreat led to 98 per cent of the town being obliterated in bombing raids. This is commemorated by the striking King Albert I monument, from where we start our bike ride along the wide, recently completed promenade, which connects the reconstructed medieval centre to the marina. The sense of war follows us later that day, when on the outskirts of Ostend we see huge anti-aircraft guns poking alarmingly from the dunes.
There are 60 bunkers, a mile of trenches and underground tunnels. Rommel personally inspected this section in , and among the displays is the accordion he left: his customary badge of approval. The jarring sight somehow prepares us for arriving in Ostend which, after the delightful small-town pace of De Panne, Koksijde and Newport, feels joltingly busy and gritty. The location is good if you want to explore the region, do some beach horse back riding and have a few walks in the dunes. The hotel does not have any spectacular dune views.
Staff are really nice. Useful to speak some French. Very friendly staff! We had problems with getting to the hotel due to one way roads and road works but the reception staff came out to navigate us. We were also allowed to have a shower in our rooms after the beach race De Panne endurance mtb beach race which was much appreciated.
Has a fridge, closet and modern WC with rain shower. Loved the location close to shops, beach and restaurants. Belgium was welcome relief after uptight France.

Dinner at the hotel below was very good with nice staff but the waffle was brittle. Everything, from the guy who booked us in, to the lady in charge of breakfast, stayed several times and each time has been great including location, on site parking 10 euros , they are refurbishing and that will improve what is a great hotel. The hotel room was clean and tidy, staff was excellent answered all questions and was very helpful in check in! Not to mention the location was very quiet and easy to get to from anywhere in de panne.
The hotel provided everything I needed, clean ample room, perfect location, nice staff willing to help and answer questions.

Very well equipped just needs a kettle! Great location 15 min walk to Plopsaland and Plopsaqua. Very very friendly host! The house was really clean and certainly big enough for 10 adults! The kitchen is very big and has everything in it!
